I'm just about to go on holiday overseas. Knowing that I will need to run my business while I'm in Europe, I started to look for options.
I was surprised to learn that my iPhone 5 model or higher, is actually already unlocked. Which means I can buy a five dollar chip in any country I go to, load it with local currency and pop it into my iPhone 5 and then have the internet on my phone while I'm travelling throughout different country's.
About the unlocked iPhone.
The unlocked iPhone includes all the features of iPhone but without a wireless contract commitment. You can activate and use iPhone on the supported GSM wireless network of your choice. The unlocked iPhone 4s, iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s will not work with CDMA-based carriers. An unlocked iPhone 5c or iPhone 5s may not support LTE networks in all other countries; contact service providers for details.
If you don’t want a multiyear service contract, or if you prefer to use a local carrier when traveling abroad, the unlocked iPhone is the best choice. It does not come with a micro-SIM card for iPhone 4s, or a nano-SIM card for iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s, so you’ll need to get one from any supported GSM carrier worldwide. To start using it, simply insert the card into the slot on your iPhone and turn it on by pressing and holding the On/Off button for a few seconds. Then follow the on-screen instructions to set up your iPhone.
Apple Personal Hotspot
Thanks to Apple's personal hotspot I can utilise my iPhone 5 and use it as a wireless modem. Which means I can jump online at any time, in any country on any device. I will be overseas for most of July, but don't despair because thanks to Apple products and the use of Internet overseas. I should still be able to answer any email questions that you have within 24 hours.
Until next time
